Then recontest. The point was to have a fair election. When I asked them who should be GM in the meantime, they both bailed and said Trager. As it turns out, he was winning before the issues started anyway.

I'll give any Sentinel 10k to contest if they want it.

Can I just take the gold? Does having Sentinel class count? :P @Oleis

This is asinine. A bug ruined the election. I asked who should be GM while I restarted the election (defaulting to Arbre, obviously). Both Arbre and Seir said not to bother. None of it should have happened, so please don't argue the morality or the principle of it unless you're interested in making a change. I am happily sponsoring anyone who cares to start a fair election, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend that two people who don't want to be guildmaster should sit there for three days. There is no benefit in seeing the vote ratio of uninterested parties vs. Trager.

I doubt I want GM myself. I have orgs to lead on Moi. In addition, contesting an incumbent versus contesting an open spot is not the same thing. We also don't know how many votes he'd have gotten - does the guild unanimously want him? Are they only tentatively taking him as GM?

My primary point is that an admin stepping in to player politics and appointing a leader - regardless of what outcome seemed inevitable - really undercuts our power as players, in a game advertising player-run politics. Yeah, in the end, everything may be up to admin choices, but it kinda leaves a bad taste when that's presented so explicitly.

@Moirean I think Oleis stepped in to fix a bug? .. and if the people in the election said to give trager it.. then IF youre unhappy with Trager being GM, kick @Oleis for 10k and contest?

End of the day Arbre didnt want it, Seir didnt, Wylliam didn't soo in the election at hand only Trager was left...

Went to work...worked came home to add the rest of the tiles...ALL of the tiles are gone. Now I doubt theft is involved so they all probably decayed...which sucks

  • @Moirean‌ well it kind of is, you want the election to last 3 days because 1 person is in the election for being the person contested and from sounds of it 2 people just threw the names into the hat for doing so, not because he/she wishes to be GM and only person who sounds like he/she wanted to be gm is gm...

Wouldn't you prefer someone who wanted to be GM to be GM then someone who doesnt? like a few guilds have had?

  • I agree @moirean, but I don't really see how it happened in this case. The election screwed up, and for whatever reason, Seir didn't want a rematch. There's no one left to have an election with, unless someone new jumps in.

  • ArbreArbre Arbrelina Jolie Braavos
I think what's riling @Oleis up here, @Moirean, is that you're acting like the admin Mecatl'd it -- they didn't. I bugged up the election by discovering I could remove people from it, and Oleis was trying to fix it. When he asked who should be GM, we all said Trager. He didn't step in because he doesn't like someone, he didn't step in to close things up early, he didn't step in to get rid of our e-rights as Aetolians -- he stepped in because I issued myself over breaking the election.

If they're paralysed, they can't shield. A vlock is really sort of a misnomer because it's not all that effective other than pushing off a round or two. Play for the truelock. Always play for the truelock.

Nah, game politics aren't bad in of itself. The real issue is that some players meta-game/cheat, can't separate IC/OOC or can't handle the position and all the drama+responsibilities that comes with it and bog down those around them. It'll cycle up and down as players mature and learn though.

  • Yes, claiming giftbags everyday across a range of characters. @Haven‌ It always cycles up and down, regardless. There just comes a time where you question how much good it does, or if stagnancy with a few happy people outweigh the projected growth of the whole. I think there's probably a great many out there that could agree that politics is the bane of this game. It's in the silent majority's nature to be... well, silent.

Getting involved in RP arcs where you feel that going forward, there's certain actions you can take that make sense for your character ICly, but on an OOC level, you know that going that route is likely going to be tedious, exhausting, and probably unfun for you, but not doing it also probably means you're shooting yourself in the foot and cutting off all future interactions forever.

I also rage that after deciding to be more active in PK, keeping track of all my cures, and especially venoms, is kind of annoying. Even worse when like 50 vials decay all at once. And then diving into combat and realizing that I'm missing a crap ton of stuff because it all decayed like five minutes ago.

    (That's me raging.)

Oh, I forgot that thing existed before. If I knew I was going to be getting into PK, I totally would've gotten the venom rag when I had the chance. >.<

  • Politics is a major draw of IRE games. They aren't perfect, but they exist in a way that I haven't seen in many other text games.

Any group of nerds in one place in large enough numbers on the internet without VERY aggressive policing from the admin will occasionally act like a bunch of high school brats. That's going to exist regardless of whether or not there is politics IG.

Feeling like you've wasted your time in an RP arc, and that everything you did was ultimately meaningless.
