Flying Lotus feat. Kendrick Lamar - Never Catch Me
Kendrick Lamar - I
Misterwives - Coffins
The first two I've been listening to constantly past few days, to try and keep up a good mood, and the third has been just something to listen to when reflecting on things, especially with the recent death of a somewhat friend and the upcoming anniversary of the death of another.
I decided a few days late that I'm going to celebrate Oz music month with you guys by putting up a song a day up. Unfortunately, means I have some catching up to do.
1/11 - Regurgitator - ! (The song formerly known as)
Oceanwalk turned up in my playlist today and I remembered how much I love this guy. Enjoy some Astronautalis, one of my all-time favorite artists (who is also stupidly handsome, look:
)
Oceanwalk
Story of my life (feat P.O.S.), hidden track from "Pomegranate" (my favorite album of his so far)
Trouble Hunters (because who doesn't love rap about the founding fathers?)
I love songs with beautiful lyrics and these are some of the most beautiful lyrics I have ever heard. It earns itself a place in my 'Melancholia' playlist along with Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, Bon Iver and yes, Damien Rice. But this is my favourite, it is my ultimate song.
"Bob Dylan may have been a great lyricist, but he couldn’t sing, could barely play guitar and his music doesn’t make me want to slam dance. Thank the great music spirits that Will Wagner and THE SMITH STREET BAND exist then, making punk poetry that makes you want to cry, laugh, drink, fuck and live.
The Smith Street Band have carved out a particular niche for themselves in Australian punk music, crafting painfully honest and melodic songs that eschew conventional structures in favour of ragged, rambling personal monologues delivered in Wagner’s powerful shout."
The honesty of the lyrics for The Smith street band is what gets me. Like the critic above said, his voice is far from melodious but you can hear the raw emotion pumped into ever single word he 'sings'.
7/11 The Smith Street Band - Don't F**k with our Dreams The happiest and upbeat of the three selected songs.
The Smith Street Band - Young Drunk Herk... so nostalgic.
The Smith Street band - Ducks Fly Together When I first started seeing my current boyfriend he worked away a lot. We talked a lot while he was away and he always said I could crash in his room when he was away. I thought it was a little weird since it's his room and he wouldn't be there, but then I heard this song and it was the first time I realised he 'liked me' liked me so every time I hear it now I tear up a little.

I'm really digging Emeli Sande lately.

the way she tells me I'm hers and she is mine
open hand or closed fist would be fine
blood as rare and sweet as cherry wine

I woke up, and played @Emelle's last song -really- loud. Interesting song, don't get me wrong, but ffs, I hadn't even had any coffee.
