Annoyed to death of some players that hop around orgs and believe themselves to be privileged elitists  and thus must be in a leadership position. The worst part is, they actually -get- such positions, even though it is quite clear they dont deserve it and brings up suspicions of how such a person gained or was placed in it. So much for playing to realistic views.

Hearing once again about people doing all they can to push other players away from the game. Let people play the game they like and if you don't like them, stay away rather than make their experience miserable.
I have heard there are entire clans dedicated to this purpose, pretty horrible if you ask me.  I tend to want to encourage the general attitude to be alot more positive by being involved and engaging.  Sadly I guess that is not the goal of others.

I suppose we do the best we can and ignore the riff raff that no one would take serious should their vitriol try to bleed out.

Apparently from what I was recently told, that the talk seems to be circulating about my -OOC- clan having some dedicated cult insidious plans to push people out and laugh mockingly.

Oh yes, myself having 0 IC governmental power and not that much of a combatant is pushing extremely hard to make sure people are removed. seriously...?

Honestly whomever is starting such rumors badly needs to grow up and -maybe- just try and think about just how players could even do that. Heck I think my clan is mostly made of rogues anyway, be pretty funny to see this super weapon in work.

Truth be told, if you really want to look into "pushing players from the game", then you'd have to look back in Aetolia's history of players in power that would alienate, blacklist and call manhunts on others. Now that's something looking into.

This will be only reply I give to this rumor, as it -reaaaally- isnt worth mine or the other clannies time. Peace

I sort of want to answer @Calipso's previous post:

People do not start at a blank slate whenever they join a new organization (doesn't matter if it's city, order, guild, house, etc). If they are well-known for being capable, engaging leaders, they will have an easier time than someone with a reputation for troublemaking. It actually is meaningful to act in a way that makes you an upstanding member of your community because you keep that reputation with you even after going to new organizations.

I doubt it is favoritism so much as it is people wanting decent folk leading their guild/order/city/house/etc. Of course, there has been times when something seemed a bit shady. Talking to the people involved might make the situation a bit clearer, and the best advice I can give is getting people engaged if something inappropriate actually happened. As a whole, people in Aetolia doesn't want the game run by OOC cliques/RL buddies/the IRC mafia/etc.

You cannot outguild someone who hasn't been active lately, as that person could not have done
    anything to deserve it.

Why are you trying to outguild someone that's dormant anyway? o.o

Was waiting on a resolution for something else before I acted on it. Just seems it took too long and they'd quit logging in. I dislike leaving things unresolved, it's frustrating and it nags at me.

  • Having returned to a character after a couple of years of dormancy, only to find him city and guildless, it can be pretty disappointing. No messages, nothing, and that particular character was politically inactive so I never did find out what happened.

I assume it was done after I quit playing but before the character fell into official dormancy.

  • I always get sad when I see my friends die hunting. If we were not all vampires I'd run and revive them.
  • I don't usually post on rage, or post really at all but I've had a serious problem.
Basically when I switch to my zealot class, it shifts all of what I've learned around. For example, I learned trans in telepathy and none in illumination and got pretty far in tekura. This is the second time it's happened where I switch to zealot from luminary and suddenly I'm inept in telepathy, trans in illumination and only have partial what I learned in tekura.

My issue has been up for 4 days with no response. Please halp! I can't attempt to radiance people without my skills!

  • IshinIshin Retired Lurker Virginia
@Aren : probably because of shared skills. That's a pretty weird bug, though. Does it shift to that -every- time you change, or is it different every time?

  • It shifted the first time I switched, not the second and now it shifted again. It's rather random.

Huh. Hopefully they get back to you about that ASAP. I'd be -pissed-.

  • That is really odd. I know Daingean and Haven both have Luminary too but I've never heard about that happening with their skills when they switch between the two.

OOC attitudes and presumptions about players chasing people I enjoy away from the game.

Petty nonsense, childish bickering, rumor mongering, alt sharing, and general douchebaggery.

Aetolia should be primarily populated by adults. Feels like middle school.

While I agree, please keep in mind that the game is intended for 13+. That said, the majority of our players -are- adults at this point. Not sure why some of them can't behave like it.

  • I'm aware of what the game is intended for. Though I will say that I would not -allow- my 13 year old daughter to play any IRE game. Most of the playerbase is at least highschool or higher, though. Further, most of the drama and bad behavior comes from people I know are adults.

Looks like Razmael took care of you. I'm sorry about the delay. Our multiclass code is one of the most horrific things I've ever seen. Months ago we tried to switch the Zealot novice skill. Unfortunately, we've changed it in about 8 places and one of them seems to have been a problem. That area is definitely on my list of things to attack.

  • The sorry state Duiran is in. It has been almost 2 RL days since Elwyn posted that she was stepping down and -no one- has stepped up. It is either - no one cares (most likely) or you know, they really don't want me to step down. Either way, I am not playing as often as I was right now because I need a break to do other things that I like to do.

@Daskalos at this point I'd just say you should really make an alt and pick up Bloodborn class. Then fight me and see if you get any different results from what you currently get. Beating you with every class I own doesn't seem to make an impression and beating you without even using my skills doesn't either. Or make a Bloodborn offense and go into classpick mode in the arena. I dunno what else I can prove. Yes Ashmer beat me before, Ashmer is also very good and beat you with a level 80 Luminary without a crown (which he's also used to kill several -Bloodborn- players). Maybe, just maybe, classes aren't everything.

Why are Chiavs in Azdun so annoying and difficult to kill for a level 30 area? The damage they do is medium but the CC is insane. Im being knocked-down, broken limbs (combo'd with knockdown), webbed, and generally unable to react. They also stay in groups, so im almost constantly on the ground with broken limbs and webbing, reminds me a bit of the swordfish in the Spiral. They also chase...not just adjacent room chase, but over long distances. You'd think something this annoying would give good XP, but it's near nil...

Can this be looked into please?

He beat me the first time we sparred, and since then we've had draws -- my Luminary offense when I fought him the first time hadn't been updated in quite some time as I had been using Templar for the last 5-6 months before that. I spent that weekend updating and now we more or less draw against each other (or, at least, did the last several arena spars we have). I added some hindering to my offense, to slow down the opponent slowing -me- down and suddenly thinks got a lot better. But, we've got a whole thread dedicated to this conversation, so we can do that there. My point stands that a knee jerk 'we're going to protect high end bashing areas because we don't like that Enorian has RP' is dumb. Bring a bigger group, laugh at us as we try. I eliminated bounties because I wanted it to be more of an active defense thing, where before people would just bounty. I thought that was dumb and changed it.

  • Aetolia. Why you so ridiculous?

This is a game. It's supposed to be fun. Entertainment. This isn't life or death. Take a deep, collective breath and get it managed.

I'd like at least a few weeks of no head-desk moments over the ridiculous behavior of the adults in the room, prz.

I feel like I've dug myself into a proverbial hole in Aetolia. A hole that is slowly filling with water. Piranha-infested waters.

There are days that I am super excited about the game and the roleplaying and the people, but lately I have been logging on only to start playing other games or even just logging out again. I have been doing a lot of positive thinking, trying to focus on all the good things that I like, and I have even tried interacting with people outside my rather narrow spectrum of Aetolia-acquaintances. I am just not very good at it. In some ways, I don't feel like Aetolia's roleplaying setting is all that appealing to me anymore.

Like... when I tried this chat-based Whitewolf RPG setting, I would be able to log in and have lots if different things that I could actively pursue that would end up creating interesting and diverse possibilities for roleplay. In Aetolia, I log on and more often than not I hear something along the lines of 'How was your rest?' Don't get me wrong, I like that people concern themselves about my well-being, but it just feels like a semi-OOC question that doesn't really lead anywhere. If I met someone I hadn't seen in almost a month in real life and the first thing they asked me was 'how was your rest?', I'd probably think they were a bit weird. And that sort of is the problem for me: Aetolia is some strange combination of a roleplaying game, a chatroom, and an adventure game that just does not seem all that immersive to me anymore. I've played muds that had no OOC communication at all, and although the general level of roleplay/emotes was not as intense or well-written as here, the lack of OOC webs/clans kept me less distracted about the surrounding things and more focused on the game itself.

The really big problem is that I avoid people because I don't really feel motivated to play Aetolia (I sort of don't really feel like wasting their time), and then I feel guilty for not roleplaying with them, which just leads to me interacting with them even less. It is a bad habit and I just can't muster the energy to break it.

I feel like some of the people I always looked up to when I played Aetolia are not as great as I had made them out to be.

I loaned some credits to a person I thought was trustworthy and it's been two months without me getting them back. Turns out other people loaned him gold/credits too and is not all so enthusiatic about giving them back.

I feel like Aetolia's development has stagnated when comparing it to pretty much any other game I've been playing, including other muds that're being completely run by unpaid volunteers.

I feel like I've been doing some bad in-game choices over the last four-six months or so and just thinking about stuff is time and energy-consuming. So why am I still thinking about it?

That's the end of my rant.
