December in Aetolia: Stockings!
Hi everyone!
December has arrived and that means it's time for stockings! As always, they can be obtained from the Aetolia website at www.aetolia.com/credits under 'artifact packages.'
Per my previous post (Announce #3271), stockings have been majorly overhauled from previous years in order to make them significantly more rewarding. Take a look over that post or check out the newly updated HELP STOCKINGS which has all the information as well as relevant commands and a detailed breakdown of prizes!
Stockings can be hung either for yourself or for a friend and a short while later, Ironbeard will appear and fill up the stocking with prizes! Stockings only have one use and can also be hung anonymously with a delayed message, giving you time to flee before your recipient is alerted.
Stockings come in four varieties: Festive, Fancy, Grand, and Extravagant, with each tier giving greater prizes than the one before it. At each level, one or more prizes will be awarded to meet or exceed the minimum value. Here's what you may find inside:
Festive, minimum value: 15 credits
Credits, iron coins, crystal relic coffers*, compendium pages**, elemental globes, minipets***, chocolates, elusion crystals, style scrolls****, fireworks.
Fancy, minimum value: 45 credits
Credits, iron coins, various artifacts in the 50 credit range, crystal relic coffers*, chocolate bags, customisation certificates, scroll cases**, and prizes from the previous tier.
Fancy stockings are guaranteed to have at least 1 relic coffer in them.
Grand, minimum value: 150 credits
Credits, iron coins, various artifacts in the 100-200 credit range, hunting boon tokens, crystal relic coffers*, tattoo tokens, antiquated salvage, and prizes from the previous tiers.
Grand stockings are guaranteed to have at least 2 relic coffers in them.
Extravagant, minimum value: 550 credits
Credits, iron coins, various artifacts in the 400-800 credit range, crystal relic coffers*, antiquated salvage, city house deeds, and prizes from the previous tiers.
Extravagant stockings are guaranteed to have at least 3 relic coffers in them.
* Making a return this year are some items from the crystal relics collection. All coffers have one piece and all pieces for these relics trade in for 30 credits. The following relics are available: crystal_light, crystal_pike, crystal_tortoise, crystal_porcupine, crystal_illusion, crystal_singularity, crystal_cluster, and crystal_deathgem.
** Compendium pages currently available are: Xaanhal, Illdon, Dovan, Tiyen, Basilisk Lair, Nal'jin, Feral Caves, Tcanna, Dramedo, Teshen Undercroft.
*** There are several new minipets on offer and some old ones are making a return, the full list includes: a fluffy gosling, a speckled locust, a playful goat kid, a fuzzy camel calf, a goggle-bearing hound, a playful snow leopard kitten, a bhfaol pup, a small, golden-green serpent, a tiny-horned beetle, a hollow-eyed baby moskant, a miniature hermit crab, a grey-brown whippoorwill, a dimimutive yellow-spotted lizard, a skeletal puppy, and an ethereal sparrow!
**** Styles available are: venomous, airborne, insane, drunken, straightforward, clumsy, and spooky! These have all been updated to include the four mirror classes.
Credit and iron coin prizes scale with the tier of stocking, and the minimum credit value is the absolute minimum that the contents of a stocking will be worth. Each stocking can exceed this amount and will very often hold multiple prizes!
All stockings will also have some gold and a chance of filler prizes such as obsidian inks, leering skullmasks, grimstim pills and so on. These don't count towards your value anymore and are included as extras.
Each stocking tier below extravagant also has a very small chance of rolling a big prize in the form of a 400-800 credit artifact!
Every 150 stockings opened will trigger a global prize where one of the next 50 stockings opened will contain a bonus of 500 credits.
Additionally, for every 5 stockings of each type you purchase, you'll receive either a gold or platinum stocking of that tier! So if you purchase 5 fancy stockings, you'll get a gold (or platinum) fancy stocking. Gold and platinum stockings are special and fill up only on Christmas and New Year's Day, respectively! These are tracked cumulatively, so you can safely split up purchases without losing out. Opening one of these stockings acts as if you had opened two of that tier, giving you double the prizes!
Stocking purchases automatically enter you into a raffle drawn on January 1st, and all stocking purchases award "a decorative gift voucher" - these can only be redeemed (LOTTERY EXCHANGE VOUCHER) by someone other than the owner, and provide 1 raffle entry to whoever you gift them to. I've significantly updated the prizes for this year, but in the interests of keeping this post from running even longer, please see HELP STOCKING RAFFLE or LOTTERY 36 for the specifics!
Enjoy!

I would like to make a humble request. They do not know I am making a request, nor have I talked with anyone about it. So, al little background below.
The sect change requiring your accuracy of 4 or more. First, I think this is a very good change. I like what is being done with sect overall, seems cool. Keep it up!
I am not sure if the top 8 have to fight, or just they are listed on the plaque and just the #1 gets the honors line, or if of the top 8, the winner gets the honors line. I can see both ways as a cool thing. Maybe even separate honors lines. One for #1 rating, one for winning the sect tournament (if there is one).
I don't know how much the ranking system for sect has been tweaked, but it used to be a massive loss of points to lose to a "new" sect member, even if they were a top ranked combatant who just happen to join the system. I would love for it to be looked at a bit more. If the #1 person has 2000 points, and they have 50+ fights logged in sect, versus say a 1500 point person and 5 fights logged, a 200 point drop shouldn't happen. Nor a draw shouldn't drop massive points. Smaller increments seems a better draw. That will result in way more matches. Maybe a loss is maxed out at 30 points, and gains to X points? I don't know, but that
would result in way more fights and less worrying about a single loss taking you out of a potential top 8.
We all know how easy it is also to not be killed in Aetolia. If someone really wants to not die, there is lots they can still do to make this happen. Yes, it still happens. This ties into the draw rating noted above. While typing, I did think of something that could also help with people who avoid fights. Either the collapsing room mod, or if after 20 (X) seconds of not being in the same room, your are transported together in some kind of single room. I don't know.
Request: End the current season as-is, with no requirement of accuracy. I think it would be a huge detriment to the small fighting community we have to make that change in a current season. The reality is, in my opinion, I think
@Mjoll has properly earned that rank/honors line already. With the new change, she will not be eligible. Along the same lines,
@Jezreth and
@Valeria both would not be in the top 8 as well. That also is a dis-service to them. They have definitely earned their spots in the rankings. Put in the new scoring system with the new year.
Some may say, just have her fight, get back the accuracy rating. Sure, sounds easy on paper, but with how the outlined issues above about a single loss, and the starting expectation of how sect was rated, I just don't see it as being fair.
On a side note, I also think the season could be shortened. I am not even sure how long the full season is (6 months or a year?) Maybe make it quarterly or no more than six months, if not already. That would also draw in more fighters. Longer seasons create more stagnant stances to the sect system.
Thank you to the team (especially those who work with combat, I would guess a majority still being
@Keroc) for making the experiences very very good, and the continued hard work you have been doing. It is noticed, and I hope you take my suggestion into consideration.
Respectfully,
Mazz

Stocking Promo Overhaul: A Preview
Hi folks,
At the upcoming Howling (about 9 hours from the time of this post) the month will officially roll over to December and the stockings promo will begin. The full details will go up as usual right after the Howling in another post, but as we are making some major changes to the stockings promo this year, I wanted to post in advance to give everyone the information early without making one giant, unwieldy news post.
If you don't want to read the full details, the basic TL;DR is stockings have been remade completely in how they handle prizes to give more consistent value.
After reviewing the logs for stockings from 2020, I was very unhappy about the average returns, so we've rebuilt them entirely from the ground up. Under the old system, higher tiers of stockings gave extra prize rolls, but these extra rolls still drew from the entire table of options. This meant that even at the highest price point, there was still a very high likelihood of rolling far below the equivalent value in credits and receiving lower returns than you would get from simply buying credits outright. Needless to say, this is not an acceptable standard.
We've done away with that system and now, each tier of stocking is assigned a minimum credit value that will always be met and will often be exceeded, made up of one or more prizes from that tier's list of options. At minimum, these returns will always be at least as good as a 30% credit sale (almost always better), scaling up towards a 45% or 50% bonus for the higher tiers - as a baseline.
THIS EFFECTIVELY MEANS THAT STOCKINGS ARE NOW MUCH MORE CONSISTENT IN VALUE.
I'll have more details on the specific values and the stocking contents when the time comes, but here is a breakdown of some other changes to stockings aimed at making them far more worthwhile:
- Gold and Platinum stockings now act as if you opened two stockings from their equivalent tier, giving double the prizes.
* e.g If you open a golden grand stocking, you would get two grand stockings worth of prizes totalling (at least) double the credit worth of one stocking of that tier.
- Stockings now reward organisation credits when purchased. These scale with the tier of stocking.
- Every 150 stockings opened will trigger a global prize where one of the next 50 stockings to be opened will contain a bonus of 500 credits on top of its other prizes.
- Filler prizes such as obsidian ink, grimstim pills, Underhalls torches and such no longer count towards a stocking's value and will only ever be included as extras.
- I have instated some bad luck protection that will ensure you can only roll prizes like styles, minipets, and such once per stocking.
* This eliminates the possibility of filling an entire stocking with the same low level item.
In addition to these changes, we have also completely reworked how the stocking raffle works. Instead of being tied wholly to gold and platinum stockings, there will now be one global raffle with 8 prizes drawn on January 1st.
Stocking purchases automatically enter you into the raffle on a scaling basis (Festive = 1 "ticket", Fancy = 2 "tickets", Grand = 6 "tickets", Extravagant = 20 "tickets"), and all stocking purchases award one "decorative gift voucher" per stocking bought. These can only be redeemed by someone other than the owner, and provide one raffle entry to whoever you gift them to.
This allows you to gift stockings freely without feeling as though you are missing out on raffle entries in the process, and also allows everyone to gift away raffle entries without giving up their own!
My next post at the Howling will have a full breakdown of the stocking values and their contents for this year. I apologise for the long post(s), but with how poor this promo was in the past, it needed a lot of love to bring it up to par. I think we have hit that mark!
HELP STOCKINGS will be updated after the Howling arrives with all of the new information!
