If you're not clear what happened:

Consume requires the target to be prone and possess the Nyctophobia affliction. If either are missing, the Consume spell will fail.

If you use the Shadowprice variant of Consume, it can not be interrupted. Downside of this is if you try it without the requirements, it instantly kills you.

Here, Eliadon cured Nyctophobia in the exact same timeframe I cast the spell. There is no gagged prompt or anything. You would think this is incredibly unlucky but you'd be surprised how many times this happens. I'm immune to being mad over it, and I'm in tears from laughing so hard right now.
