None of these are new or that obscure, they are just some of my favorite songs ever:
Hot Tuna (blues-rock band, spinoff of Jefferson Airplane) - Water Song
My dad always plays this song for me on acoustic when we're camping, hearing it makes me feel happy and relaxed
Jeff Beck - A Day in the Life
I'm a sucker for sexy, sexy guitar and nobody beats Jeff Beck.
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band - East West
My sister and I would beg my dad to put on this record and we'd dance around to this song when we were kids
John Frusciante - Murderers
This is my future husband. Sorry Toz.
Django Reinhardt - Minor Swing
I legitimately thought there was a documentary about this guy when I heard there was this movie coming out called "Django Unchained" and I got all excited. 3-fingered, illiterate and best jazz guitarist ever.
Buena Vista Social Club - Chan Chan (but the whole album is amazing)
This was one of my favorite albums in high school. Gorgeous music, incredible story (ensemble album of exiled Cubans).
Pink Floyd - One of These Days
My sister and I listed to tapes as we went to bed each night. When she got to choose, it was Magic School Bus. When I got to choose, it was Pink Floyd.
Certainly none of this is remotely obscure or even close to new, but since I've established myself here as a metalhead, I suddenly feel like listening to and sharing some of my favorite songs from "the big four." In no particular order, except to say, fuck yeah Slayer is #1.
You can't tell because J. R. Hayes is such a madman on the mic, but these are love songs. There's something about the unbridled fury of their music combined with their lyrical poignancy that gets me. I love Pig Destroyer.
These are in no particular order, and I have likely either found them through other Aetolians or shared them with them at various points so apologies to those who've already heard these gems!
Sail On - Masterplan - Power metal
Light Up The Night - The Protomen - Nerdrock
SPECIAL THANKS TO @MARIENA For that. For serious. The Protomen. So. Good.
Whistle In The Dark - Mojo Juju and the Snake Oil Merchants - Voodoo jazz? Whatever, just listen to it.
This is piano metal. There's no guitar in it. But you can't help but get the sense that it's made by metal-folk, even if you don't bother reading the wikipedia article that tells you so.
I love it.
Proudly fighting against Greytolia since the [approximately] 3/1/2010 at 18:00.
This whole album is so dark and creepy and awesome. I missed them when they played here last year, and now I hear they're on "hiatus." This makes me almost as sad as that I never saw Isis.
ISIS! I was fortunate enough to see them on their final tour when they came through Athens, and even though I wasn't able to drink for circumstances beyond my control, they still rattled my eardrums into submission good and proper. One of the better shows I've seen.
So uh. Post-metal kick?
Post-metal kick.
Isis - Ghost Key
Rosetta - Départe/Deneb
Rwake - Crooked Rivers
Mouth of the Architect - No One Wished to Settle Here
Well evidently im retarded. I got it to work at first, and now it isn't...anywho. First video is 'Not Gonna Die' by Skillet, second video is 'Paradise' by Within Temptation.
When I was a teenager in some previous century and had a rather silly love for all things industrial, I was once walking around a music festival and came upon this band on one of the side-stages that had all kinds of keyboards and heavy guitars and was just kind of thrashing it out. So I worked my way up to the front and rocked out for a bit to this vaguely nu-metal band that was obviously kind of local. In between songs the singer started to talk about something like "THIS NEXT SONG IS ABOUT HOW MUCH WE LOVE JESUS," and I was like, ahh, this is that Skillet band the Baptist kids at the high school talk about. Neat. Then I went to look for Rob Zombie.

Edit: First one is totally NSFW btw. Also, they're funny songs. Not kill babies and eat them metal songs.
Jamaican Inspector Man from the Psych Musical performed by Dule Hill
Pig Destroyer - Jupiter's Eye
Pig Destroyer - Towering Flesh

"The smell of dusty fur, sweet smoke, waiting and patience, a thing that time cannot kill. The moth that candles won't burn."
When I was still teaching. I showed this in class. It was a magnificent class that day.
@Emelle that is effing unbelievably excellent.
@Ferrik I lol'd. I lol'd in so many languages.
Okay music:
Astronautalis - This Is Our Science
Astronautalis - Contrails
Astronautalis - Secrets On Our Lips
Astronautalis - Dmitri Mendeleyev
I seriously listened to this all day at work:
Nicone & Sascha Braemer ft. Narra - Caje
the way she tells me I'm hers and she is mine
open hand or closed fist would be fine
blood as rare and sweet as cherry wine
"The smell of dusty fur, sweet smoke, waiting and patience, a thing that time cannot kill. The moth that candles won't burn."
Okay, running mix! It's pretty eclectic - just songs that push me to keep moving for whatever reason.
NiT GriT - Lupin
Cloudkicker - The Discovery
Rosetta - Ayil
Baroness - Take My Bones Away
Navel gazing at its finest.
