What influenced your character?

DaskalosDaskalos Credit Whore ExtraordinareRolling amongst piles of credits.

So, I was having this discussion the other day with someone else, and now I'm curious what other people used\use as guiding points for their character? When I setup Dask, I knew he was going to have a backstory to hate Vampires, that he was going to be zealous, but music actually was sort of the inspiration for Dask's attitude...

I don't know what kind of anime stuff is in the videos, but I'm referring to the songs, anyway.

This song. Even the weird tangent about the car sort of foreshadowed his very odd sense of humor.

Also,

I don't know if anyone ever read this manga, or watched this show, but Dain is pretty much exactly like Tsuna, when he's in Dying Will mode. His gloves are even sort of modeled after Tsuna's X gloves.

The Battle Poem of Valkyries:

"See! warp is stretched

For warriors' fall,
Lo! weft in loom

'Tis wet with blood;
Now fight foreboding,
'Neath friends' swift fingers,
Our grey woof waxeth
With war's alarms,
Our warp bloodred,
Our weft corseblue.

"This woof is y-woven
With entrails of men,
This warp is hardweighted
With heads of the slain,
Spears blood-besprinkled
For spindles we use,
Our loom ironbound,
And arrows our reels;
With swords for our shuttles
This war-woof we work;
So weave we, weird sisters,
Our warwinning woof.

"Now Warwinner walketh
To weave in her turn,
Now Swordswinger steppeth,
Now Swiftstroke, now Storm;
When they speed the shuttle
How spearheads shall flash!
Shields crash, and helmgnawer
On harness bite hard!

"Wind we, wind swiftly
Our warwinning woof
Woof erst for king youthful
Foredoomed as his own,
Forth now we will ride,
Then through the ranks rushing
Be busy where friends
Blows blithe give and take.

"Wind we, wind swiftly
Our warwinning woof,
After that let us steadfastly
Stand by the brave king;
Then men shall mark mournful
Their shields red with gore,
How Swordstroke and Spearthrust
Stood stout by the prince.

"Wind we, wind swiftly
Our warwinning woof.
When sword-bearing rovers
To banners rush on,
Mind, maidens, we spare not
One life in the fray!
We corse-choosing sisters
Have charge of the slain.

"Now new-coming nations
That island shall rule,
Who on outlying headlands
Abode ere the fight;
I say that King mighty
To death now is done,
Now low before spearpoint
That Earl bows his head.

"Soon over all Ersemen
Sharp sorrow shall fall,
That woe to those warriors
Shall wane nevermore;
Our woof now is woven.
Now battlefield waste,
O'er land and o'er water
War tidings shall leap.

"Now surely 'tis gruesome
To gaze all around.
When bloodred through heaven
Drives cloudrack o'er head;
Air soon shall be deep hued
With dying men's blood
When this our spaedom
Comes speedy to pass.

"So cheerily chant we
Charms for the young king,
Come maidens lift loudly
His warwinning lay;
Let him who now listens
Learn well with his ears
And gladden brave swordsmen
With bursts of war's song.

"Now mount we our horses,
Now bare we our brands,
Now haste we hard, maidens,
Hence far, far, away."

It -has- been a subtle theme in her career in Aetolia: she wore a Valkyrian fullplate as a paladin, raven/wolves (these are symbols that represent valkyries) has been features in her designs, her wings rooms is in Yggdrasil, and so on.

Ugh that last picture didn't link right the first time.

• Two dreams I had.
The first was about a guy named Darren with blond hair who was in an army. His captain was an evil dark haired guy named Edhain. Eventually Edhain took Darren's wife and turned her into a stuffed horse doll. He was sexually abusing the doll and forcing Darren to tearfully do whatever mission he asked on the basis that he would turn the horse doll back into a human.

In the next dream, Darren was a bowl-cut blond hero in comic books and Edhain was a raggedy little dark haired orphan. He would go around on the street and do odd jobs for money and save his money fastidiously to buy the comic books. One day he was wandering the city and he actually saw Darren run into a run down building. He followed through an apartment that belonged to his friend, and found the apartment was all messed up. His friend was there and so was his friend's baby, and the baby was talking like an adult. Anyway when he caught up, there was a creepy machine in the basement that was electrocuting out all of Darren's powers. The machine was controlled by government lackeys with blue-glowing masks. So Edhain ran away, his illusions about the world dashed. Eventually he developed the understanding that there was something he had to do about all this and that understanding ended at a lake (like the story of Beowulf and Grendel). Along his way to the lake he met some interesting things, like a full maned lion that spoke in a little girl's voice and a bat that could turn into a coin with a ship on it. Those creatures accompanied him, but I woke up before he ever went into the lake.

After having those two dreams I started to feel that despite the dichotomy of light and dark, Edhain was a far more interesting character than the very bland Darren. I didn't have any more dreams about either of them, but they stuck in my head as characters and when I wanted to check out Aetolia I decided to use Edhain. He kind of developed on his own from the start concept.
The Angwe you all know and love is a prequel. So, his inspirations aren't really relevant yet. I litterally rolled him up with no planning whatsoever and wrote a backstory based on what the character told me.
