In looking through Eleanor's Untrapped Error site, I saw a link to a comic that 'Fini made. I remembered said comic came from a thread on the oldforums that was absolutely hilarious. We need more, relevant ones. Let's go folks.

    It's before your time.  I don't remember who did it or when, but one of the gods tricked another into doing GAME STATES, making them think it'd bring up a list of options.  It didn't.

    I was pretty sure the STATES meme being a thing came from the worldmote containing only that, during the Kerrithrim. The ?? on the end was the curious appending of that on the end of one of Galleus' emotes.

    It was cemented when "STATES ??" appeared briefly on the old newsfeed on the site.

    STATES ?? is in fact because Galleus wrote states.r, which (you'd never know, but by god it's glorious) made IRE's code 1000000000% more efficient and amazing. You should give him a standing ovation for it.

    STATES ?? was a debug global that happened when it couldn't determine a couple of things, hence the dual question marks. It was left in accidentally after implementation.
