Subj: Newbie orientation tasks

We are happy to announce the implementation of a brand new tasks system for Aetolia!

These tasks, while more oriented towards our newbies, can be done by any of our players; so make sure you guys test your knowledge of how to sip vials and use the SAY command!

TASKS will display the current index of tasks there are to complete.

TASK # will show you more information about that particular task, as well as the reward associated with it upon completion.

If you run into any problems, please make sure to BUG them with as much information as you can, in this case particularly the task number that seems to have been the cause of the problem.

 

Penned by my hand on the 14th of Lanosian, in the year 411 MA.

This is pretty neat, though I can't gauge how much XP is granted in scale with lower levels (I worry about it rushing people through lower levels and losing the chance to really learn and explore in newbie areas, like Imperian's did for me). 

I've found a few bugs with it so far, or nitpicky things.

• Task 3: Finding a mentor (I don't know if this is updating for people with mentors - I don't have one, but my finding a mentor at this point would just game the system and not really mean much)
• Task 4: Level 21 isn't retroactively updating, and alas, I cannot go back and re-earn it.
• Task 8: This is tough since I am omnitrans and I have no way to learn this without spending way too much money for the task.
• Task 25: Firstaid isn't updating for me. 
• Task 28: Emlist/emote isn't updating.
• Task 45: Utilizing newbie portals cannot be done post-novicehood.

All tasks combined grant a total of 71,000 experience, so we don't think there should be too much of a concern, there. You can be in newbie areas up through level 30.

I'm really liking this so far, though updated first post with some bugs/retroactive things for non-newbs.

Aaand be prepared for many people to randomly talk on Newbie!

Task 11: Score/Status use isn't updating that task either.

You need to use QSC as well, as mentioned when you look st TASK 11's instructions.

I just did it all and seem these are giving me errors, I am over 100..

43. I CAN SEE EVERYTHING!       [ ] Utilize your map.

45. Explorer                    [ ] Take 3 different exits from the Portals.

3.  Teach me, wise one          [ ] Find yourself a mentor.
4.  21!                         [ ] Obtain the 21st level.

I think the 43 is mudbot being weird as MAP shows my mudbot map not the ingame map, MAPS show the ingame map.. ill fiddle with that later

I cant obtain 21 when I'm over 21... and I already have a mentor I'm happy with and don't fancy finding a new one ...

Same with Portals, I cant access newbie portals to use newbie portals... Maybe make city portals count also??

I guess this new task thing is for NEWBIES/new people joining rather then people already apart of Aetolia?

But awesome idea either way I do like :P

@nalor - mudbot is case sensitive, so just type Map with a capital M and it'll access the IG map instead of the mudbot map.

@Moirean nope that dont work, I logged into the website and map did it right away.. lol

I reconfigured my Mudbot to work on linux soo a few things are different to windows one

Got Trabarg to aff me with disrupt for the concentrate task.

It gives this line:

But does not actually afflict you with disrupt, so concentrate does nothing.

So I got @Jami to:

Some minor suggestions:

- Let us filter tasks. Eg TASKS HEALING only shows the healing category of tasks. If the system is expanded, this will be pretty important to have to make stuff not just a wall of spam.

- TASKS COMPLETE and TASKS INCOMPLETE, same thing

- Let ambassador/guild novice aides do TASKS <person> to review tasks on a person. Perhaps make this something you can do on everyone or up until GR 3/CR 2, since people out of newbie-hood will still be pursuing these. I want to incorporate some of these into my guild progression system!

@Moirean Agreed, it would be nice to have this implemented.

 

In regards to the tasks, it would be nice if us older plays auto got the level 21 and mentor tasks. My OCD is going nuts :P

I love this so so much.

 

I do wish the ones that I can't now go back and complete were retroactive. I know when you get a level next it completes the level 21 one, but I'm pretty sure I'm screwed about the mentor and 3 Portal Exit tasks.

 

I also refuse to set a warcry.

 

But! Besides that, more things to make it way easier and interactive for newbies to get into the game =

Maybe change it so it works for city portals as well, if applicable? Exploring the city is just as needed for newbies as exploring the world at large.

Earning a level, any level, will grant a non-novice the lvl21 task Point, I just found out.
