Okay, so. My birthday last week and the theme for the party was Mad Hatter's Tea Party (Sub tea for Alcohol that night). My friends all came as characters from Alice in Wonderland whilst I was the Mad Hatter. Here are some photo's from the night.
Myself and one of the Tweedle Di or Tweedle Dum twins.
One of the Queen of Hearts servants, the Drink Me potion to become tiny annnd, the other twin (the girls who dressed up as them are actually twins.)
Good Alice, a Card Soldier, Bad Alice (Malice) annnd, my housemate made the White Rabbit gangsta (his ears are attached to his hood and his clock was a baseball bat with a clock face drawn on the end)
Introducing the totally discreet, super disguised storage device for hidden sweets!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a genius. Best idea ever.
What I don't get is... how do you have a box of sweets? I mean... don't you just... eat them? How do you ever have enough to put in a box? They're right there, you could put them in your face instead.
Buying in bulk. I spent about $60 at once. I sometimes have issues with blood sugar so I have to keep snacks on hand in car/bag/desk, but if I have to much sugar it's equally as bad so you learn to moderate pretty fast.
It's a plant (an herb, actually) that has a tart flavor. It's so strong when eaten raw it almost tastes bitter, but it gets much milder when you cook it into things. It's seasonal at this time of year, and people make lots of baked goods using the stalks.
rhubarb tends to be used in desserts because it gets a nice tangy flavour to it when you stew it. Rhubarb and apple crumble is a favourite of mine. It's also nice as a cordial, or roasted.
I could eat every strawberry rhubarb pie. Every single one. I'm usually lazy tho and just make strawberry rhubarb crumble. I should soon, local strawbs are in season and da best. I bought some of those miracle berry tablet things that make sour/bitter stuff taste sweet and one of the tings it recommends is rhubarb, still haven't tried it.
I HAVE BEEN ON A SEWING ODYSSEY! Well, not really, but I got a sewing machine for christmas and I have been determined to figure out what to do with it. So, all of YESTERDAY and half of TODAY has been devoted to making this fucking 'super-easy' circle skirt. I DID IT THOUGH!
Look, a zipper!
The front. Look at all that flounce
This is not a gratuitous ass shot! (Alright maybe a little). This one is entitled: It's the same $#%@#$ing length all the way around, what in all #$%^ does it hang lower in the front?!
Some of you know I had to put my dog about two months ago and I was/am pretty upset about it. She was very sick but the vet gave us one more day with her which we were able to get a few photos with her and today is the first day I've looked back at them.
Here's some backstory as to why she was so special: I am bipolar, severely bipolar. I'm medicated and stable now but years ago before I was diagnosed it wasn't so good. For 18 months when I was at my worst this dog was there for me. She would clamber up onto my bed (she had a defect in her hind leg making her unable to jump) and curl up with me on the days I couldn't do anything but cry, and she would bounce about and fall over excitedly with me when I was having my highs (Which mostly consisted of jumping on my bed screaming 'pink badger cupcakes' to rile her up).
I lost most of my uni friends during this time because I just couldn't face/talk to people in case they would judge and for a long time she was my only friend. I went through a lot of psychologists/pyschiatrists/medications until I found the combination that worked for me. This included one medication that made me photosensitive, one that made me so sick I couldn't eat for the two weeks they trialed me on it and another that I accidentally overdosed (I am a petite person) and started hallucinating about goblins coming out of the walls.
I now feel comfortable to drive my car again (I had a rather morbid obsessive thought about wanting drive head on into a truck to see what being in a accident would feel like), I have a job I love, I have a boyfriend who understands that sometimes I have bad days but still loves me despite them. I have friends. I don't think I would have been able to get this far without her unwavering friendship and I'm thankful for everything she enabled me to do.

With fresh rhubarb from the local farmer's market, of course!
My black lab/pointer mix, Lady. She's a great dog and has made a ton of progress since I brought her home from the humane society three months ago.

Also, it's pretty.
