I don't understand how Esoterica abilities work with GRACE

Hi. I chose Humourism and Esoterica class powers and wanted to try the UNLEASH VICTIMISE power on a carrion beetle since whipping it takes two to three cracks before it dies. To my surprise, I got a warning saying the carrion beetle was protected by GRACE and I had to REJECT GRACE to kill it with VICTIMISE. This makes no sense since vermin in Bloodloch are not protected by GRACE.

I went to the Yohanan Village to see if I could get this discrepancy as well and to my shock I did. I was able to whip a villager to death, but was told the villager was protected by GRACE when UNLEASH VICTIMISE was attempted.

Since I am new, maybe I don't understand the game mechanic behind this ability. Maybe it's so violent GRACE is extended, though I don't think being whipped to death is a nice way to die either.

Can someone help clarify this?

  • The beetle doesn't have grace YOU do. Everyone starts with grace up, so you will need to reject grace to use higher class skills

I've heard that explained to me in CT but I'm still confused.

I can kill a carrion beetle or a villager with my whip. When I try to use UNLEASH VICTIMISE on a carrion beetle or a villager, I cannot do so without rejecting my grace first. Why is it possible to bypass this using a whip but not a class power? Is it because a hand-held weapon can skip around that restriction?

Sorry if I seem a bit dense.
  • it's a stronger attack, it's normal to be confused. The stronger the attack you can't have grace with I am not entirely sure but you could likely ask on NEWBIE in game and someone else may know fully why

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I got the same response on NEWBIE but they made a suggestion to REJECT GRACE and now everything is on parity.
