One thing I noticed when we ran the Classic server was that people were surprised to see some old character names that they assumed had long since moved on from the game. Older players coming back to play Aetolia after a long absence often find very few names on the WHO list they recognize, which makes it harder for them to reconnect with the game and its community. This thread is intended to: 1) Let you VOLUNTEER information on who your past characters were, and 2) Request to know if the player of is still around. At which point that player can reach out to you if they see it. I want to stress the importance here that ONLY the player of a character should be revealing who they are. DO NOT reveal who someone is if it's not you. ONLY SHARE INFORMATION ON YOUR OWN CHARACTERS.

It has come to my attention that my presence here on this mud brings what seems to be immeasurable pain to certain individuals which can only be remedied by my enforced absence from this game that I love. This enforced absence is completely the fault of my own, and my own actions, and I rest blame of it firmly upon myself. I write this because I have had time to reflect upon pain as of late, and rather than seek revenge, which would only perpetuate the cycle, I would rather apologize for my own foolish actions. I have been wrong. I have stuck my nose in business that was not mine. I have been careless with the feelings of others, and been selfish in my actions, thinking only of myself. For this I am truly sorry, but I write this not to seek forgiveness, but to detail my actions going forward. To those of you instrumental in my departure, I embrace you. As much as I love this place with all my heart, I will depart, for I do not wish to inflict such pain upon anyone any longer, and especially not you. We are all human beings, and I do not believe a human could hurt another so ruthlessly, so heinously, so viciously, as leaving you all hurts me, without first being hurt far worse than that. Hey peoples! I've been talking with several others (primarily so far @Rasani , @Nipsy , @Teani ) about starting another podcast/stream. This would not be replacing the Weekly Milestones in any sense, but be an alternative while it's not around. And, once it is around, we can shift around as we need to so we don't cross over schedule-wise. The schedule plan is, right now, to have our first broadcast April 19 around 8PM or so ET. Our schedule will be every Tuesday at 8PM ET, and then Sundays around 1PM ET. We will, of course, change this up as we need to in order to accommodate different people that are interested. I will be running it on this channel: https://www.twitch.tv/thegrayaccords I will post them to Youtube and likely stream on there concurrently, though I need to still update that channel's details - so I'm not going to advertise that one for now until it's ready. The plan is to not really set specific topics or anything, though the goings on of the week will likely be naturally discussed according to whoever joins. Depending on the crowd that joins will depend on how the topic flows: -If it's the usual suspects, it'll be general chatter about the game and our experiences in recent goings on. Wishes for the game, that sort of thing. -If we have a special guest, or several special guests, we'll focus more on an interview style discussion. This will allow them to voice their opinions, with some input from the rest of the people who have joined. Overall, just a laid back feel is the hope! And hey, if no one is able to join but myself, I'll just blather about whatever I can think of to blather on. It'll be fun! I came to the forum wanting to make a post about a big old personnal sad that I wanted to share, and I didn't really feel like it was something that warranted it's own thread; in the past the "Mad 2: Madden's Maddening" thread is where stuff like this has historically been put, but the title makes it feel a bit strange of a placement for a lot of the posts that end up there. So I thought I'd make us a new thread for this kind of post. For those who don't know, when someone reacts with "awesome" to a post, it shows up as a heart - and that feels like a very appropriate reaction for the idea behind the kinds of posts this thread is intended for. As such, I suggest that we consider that a known thread policy: Awesome = Heart. Since I am not really active on Discord or anything I thought it would be easier to update people on my situation here. My battle with APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia) is going very well. Blood levels have stabilized and I have been out of the hospital for about a month or so now after 40 days of intense treatment and constant monitoring. The freedom has been nice. Currently I go in for chemotherapy sessions 5 days a week for four weeks and then four weeks off. It's basically a full time job. Fortunately where I live the government covers the costs and I am also compensated for lost work time so financially I am okay. Once life slows down again (around autumn/winter) I will probably be back to playing Fyrren regularly once more. I am more or less fine to do anything now that my blood levels are stable but just have no time to be around much during the summer. Hit me up if you want to chat some time though and catch up. I am slow to respond but miss you all!

Diablo 3

In the spirit of old threads we had about people looking for other people to play other video games with, I've decided to play a good bit of Diablo 3 again this past week. Playing Diablo Immortal through its story just made me want to play Diablo 3 again strangely enough, and I made a Seasonal Demon Hunter if anyone would like to play some time. I can power level you, if you want. Me and @Sryaen played a good bit today and I power leveled 2 characters to 70 for him in about 2 hours or so. Personally I'm just trying to see how high I can push greater rifts, and I also want to finish all the seasonal challenges before end of season(End of July). I'm Goat#1970 on Battle.net. Will be out of the house to do D&D the rest of tonight but will be on quite a bit the next two days(Yay 4 day weekend for state employees). I've also never really done 4 man greater rift content in Diablo 3, despite owning the game for the entire 10 years its been out. Would be fun to get to see that.

New show, the successor to the podcast

So, I've been thinking about this for the last few weeks. I know some of you are going to groan and say, but Aeryx you big dummy, your last attempt at the podcast wasn't that great and was only great because of the other people, Aloli chief among them, and I would say yes, you are correct. I do think we learned a lot of positive things from the podcast though. I think overall it was a success and we had a lot of great episodes. Also still not opposed to Aloli continuing to do her Midnight Press if she ever gets time and still wants to. My new idea is not really a podcast, its going to be more of a Show. I've went ahead and made a Twitch account separate from my own main one, which we would be using for said show. It would be a live stream, however, I also can use the Ankyrean Archives Youtube account I made for the podcast(mostly for the gmail at the time), and use it as a real Archives like in the name, and upload the recordings of the live streams on said Youtube account for people to catch later. Also know how and can if its desired rip the audio out of the recording and still make a podcast feed. What would this be called, and what would it be about, you ask? I would be using a name that some other people shot down when we were trying to figure out what to call the podcast, because I like it. The Weekly Milestone. I've already spent time making the scenes and layouts in OBS for this. I've done the best I can with what art/technical skills I have, and I think it looks alright. One thing I'd be wanting to do as we go along, for anyone who is interested or has the copies, is to put up previous or future Artisanal Contributions up as a slideshow for the Starting Soon or BRB scenes, and so forth. I'm completely willing and ready to be on webcam for this, that's part of the fun. Any guests or people who want to come on can too as well, or they can choose not to. I've already got it setup to have a spectralizer graph for someone's voice if they just want to do voice with me on the show. The show will have certain set segments, and then of course it will just have times where we talk about whatever we want to talk about. I'd also like to do credit giveaways either just for people sticking it out until the end of the show, or as we go along, we could do some Aetolia trivia. I can even make it different prizes, perhaps you'd like gold equivalent, etc. Any donations would be split in half for buying upgrades for the show(better camera, better mic, etc) and also for the credit giveaways, with the initial giveaways being funded by myself until either I can fund it with donations or the Pools decide to help us out with it. I'd really like this to be about fun every week, while having some sort of consistent thing to look forward to as well. A lot of my immediate contacts/friends from Aetolia are obviously from my tether, so I would really need Shadow to help me out here again. I don't want this to be a show just about Spirit or whatever. I would also be streaming my Mudlet client during the show as the background, in case we want to show anything inparticular we're talking about in the game, and so forth. Would take the necessary precautions of having tells off, all channels off, etc etc. I think it could be a good teaching tool though. Anyways, if anyone has any ideas, please post them in the thread. If anyone thinks this should be a Monthly Milestone, post it(I have had this thought too). I just think it'd be way easier on Twitch to make my own content and fun if things are slow in Aetolia than in just a voice podcast format. Chat interaction is super important. As I wrote in the other OOC thread, I will be moving back home across country, driving by myself this time(and the first time), starting June 30th, so I will be a bit tired after that to do the first show on July 3rd/4th, so that's probably a no go. More likely to be able to do the first one the following week. That's all, I guess. Maybe noone has any interest in this, maybe they have more interest than the podcast had, I dunno. Lets see what happens!

Hey! I know there's already a general video game thread going, but I felt it necessary to make a separate thread for FFXIV. If you don't know what FFXIV is, it's a Final Fantasy themed MMORPG that has been doing really well. It's got interesting combat mechanics, an active and supremely detailed crafting/gathering system and the ability to be multiple classes (and have cross-class abilities). And it looks really pretty. Not that you care about that. You play a MUD. There's currently six Aetolians playing, not counting some of our out-of-game friends. We're all on Ultros right now, and we're hanging out in a pretty large Free Company. Greetings, fellow fleshbags. Straight from shadow web, I bring you the greatest realization that I have ever had in my entire life. For too long I've been trying to convert time to explain when the meeting in a RL hour is. I've tried 'pictodays', 'nanodays', but then I sound like a nerd. I tried 'microweeks' but that sounded too much like microwave, which made me hungry. I've tried using fractions and it got horrifying fast. I've tried saying 'later' and then sending an OOC tell with the GMT. But I had a revelation, and I will share it with all of you. Aetolian days are 4 (four) hours long. Not IRL hours. No, Aetolian days are *canonly* 4 (four) Aetolian hours long. This just (blissfully) overlaps precisely with RL hours. How do I know, you might ask? How do I get my hair to do that? Is it difficult being this awesome? I'll tell you, I have no idea, and yes, respectively. How long does focus take, if you are trans survival? Ask any Aetolian combatant and they'll immediately reply "how did you get into my safehouse/afk spot?" A solid third will shrug and say 'Sunder', which isn't technically a number. And then the rest will tell you (eventually) 5 (five) seconds. Now, for those of you watching at home, try to keep up. It also takes five (5) seconds. *In real life* (IRL). Pause for effect. That means that there is a 1:1 ratio between seconds, which means (because minutes are defined as "a period of time equal to sixty seconds or a sixtieth of an hour") - there is a 1:1 ratio between a second and a minute. PAUSE FOR EFFECT. That means an Aetolian HOUR is equal to A REAL LIFE HOUR. Thank you for coming to my TozTalk.

Meta Discussions - OOC Nonsense

Hello Community, Recently I experienced what I thought was an interesting, I suppose "rumor mill" conversation which took place, involving my character and some of my affiliations. Overall this conversation left a terribly bad taste in my mouth, but it also was the sort of conversation which could bring harm to others and their reputation, which I found even more foul. By no means am I a stellar example of innocence, I have said things in the past that were harmful OOC, and I certainly regret many of them, but in returning to Aetolia, I also learned that making people feel bad in a game we are all trying to enjoy is not only counter-productive, but harmful to the community as a whole. Can we take things back we have said, no. Can we work hard to try and be better people and be supportive and kind in the community, absolutely. When it comes to attacking someone for things on an OOC level, the metagaming and nonsense that this perpetuates is sometimes the most harmful, because it damages trust in the community and also drives a wedge between what is already a small community by creating a feedback loop of this person has said and did X thing, without the grounds of proof to substantiate this. In this most recent interaction it deeply effected the roleplay of my character but also those around me, and when asking for proof of this information, I was not provided any, so I chalked it up to numerous things, be it rumors, emotions or otherwise in a dislike for a character or their history. This kind of meta-aggressive behavior should not happen. Full Stop. I thankfully have people in the community I can confide in to receive an unbiased and fair consideration when these sorts of thing come to fruition, and while I might not be close to the subject of this aggression, being a small community as we are, I am able to discuss fairly with mature people who are and get to the bottom of things. I was pleased to know that the things said were not true, no proof was able to provided, and overall it was contributed to someone being petty or harmful. However, that does not take away the wounds of the accusations, and that is an important part of this. The only thing I want this post to do by making it, is to be honest about this experience, and do something I have been doing since returning to the game. Think about how things you say OOC can be construed and be harmful to not only the roleplay of the character but to the players it effects. I know there are many I have said harmful things to in the past, but apologizing or anything of that sort will never change that those things were done, and I have worked on letting these people see things as they are now and base their feelings on those interactions. I hope that we can all do that and take that perspective with us, be mature, and try to be better today than we were yesterday. Keep IC, IC and keep OOC, OOC. Let's just have fun and be kind to our community, there is no sense allowing the bad to fester and harm things. Nipsy=Monster, me the player Middle aged man trying to not have a headache after work. Etc. I appreciate you all and have had a wonderful time interacting with new and old faces in a new capacity, I want to continue this and hope you do the same. Lets not be butts. Thanks.

Weekly Milestone: Rasani Edition

Hey folks! So, a couple of things: Aeryx has made the unfortunate mistake of trusting me to run my own episode of the stream while he's off in the Great Hunt. So, there's a few things I wanna do! First, I wanna invite people who wanna be on to reach out to me. Messages in game, discord, whatever. Anyone is invited to reach out from either side, but I AM gonna put emphasis on voices we haven't heard before. While we WILL talk about the year 500 stuff, I'd also like to develop a list of topics with the folks who decide they wanna shoot the shit with me. Additionally, something I've wanted to do for a little bit: Ad breaks. Now, I don't mean RAID SHADOW LEGENDS, no. What I'd like to offer is for any guild, city or shop to reach out to me with a pitch for an "AD" for your in game establishment! I'll read all the ones I get, all I ask is that y'all make a small donation of gold or credits so we can continue the credit giveaway. If it does well, maybe I can convince Aeryx to do it every week! My Non-Participation

I am unable to participate in most events and wars and etc. My laptop, doesn't work most of the time. I am a poor man, so replacing what needs to be replaced really isn't an option. So, for the most part... I am stuck on phone. All this will hopefully change around Christmas. I keep getting needled about not participating, so here is my explanation. This isn't a complaint about the needling, by all means, keep them coming!

Occasionally I will get it to work.

I will still RP, but getting slammed mechanically over and over again because I can't keep up(rather than me sucking at combat, I can handle constant death because I suck at combat) isn't very fun

Absence and pain.

Hey everyone, most probably know by now but I have been going through a few different health issues. I had my wisdom tooth pulled and unfortunately a blood clot never formed and has led to me having dry socket. The tooth that was pulled had been impacted the past 9 years and the gums are not healing over the bone quite fast enough which has left me in what I can only describe as constant agony. The pain has been going on for a bit over a month from before the tooth was extracted a week ago and it has made roleplaying extremely difficult for me to focus on so I have opted to simply be around only when absolutely necessary when in pain. I try to be around as much as I can whenever I am not in pain and have time outside of my regular daily chores and taking care of my grandmother. I am not entirely sure how much longer this will go on but if what I read online is correct then it should be about another week or so. I apologize to everyone who has had to wait on me for anything due to this but I've left the guild to be run by the others in leadership until I am able to function properly again. I will try to be around for a bit at least once a day

Hey Everyone, I wanted to transparent with everyone regarding my recent experience, particularly because protecting fairness in the Aetolian community was reference. As a 17 year customer of Iron Realms (specifically Aetolia) this is customer review of my experience and account so the Aetolian community can set proper expectations for the future. Big changes were made in Aetolia as of recent with the removal of Producer Tiur and so far his replacement Ictinus has done an outstanding job and put his best foot forward in curating recent events. Separate from the event category I want to be transparent with everyone regarding my recent experience and this account will be valuable for you in setting expectations moving forward. First (1) I'm going to relay the facts of what happened and second (2) I'm going to share my opinion of the decision.

Tiur produced the last auction and posted details of each item in the announce posts.

These items were bid on by the Aetolian community with the trust and expectation that they will do what Iron Realms said they would do.

A producer change occurred and Ictinus replaced Tiur as producer of Aetolia.

Next section is where my experience comes in.

The details of the Environment Token was one of the items listed in Announce 3202

Special Room Environment We'll set up rooms in your house with a special environment. The list available via BUILDING ENVIRONMENTS is something like 12% of the actual ones. If nothing matches your idea, we'll make another.

I attempted to redeem my environment token in order to create an airship observatory. The talisman currently recognizes airship as an available aetolian environment. Also it is referenced in Aetolian history through HELP DREIKATHI.

I spoke with Ictinus and he said that the redemption of this item for an airship is no longer the direction that he wishes to take Aetolia and offered a full gold refund for my auction purchase.

I mentioned that winning an auction item requires more investment than the value of gold that I spent. (I.E. Credit purchases, promo purchases, in-game hours selling goods, and in-game time and effort spent positioning myself to win something in the auction.

Alternatively, I suggested that we change the environment token into a special artifact of my choosing or a relic piece token that was also offered in the same auction.

The answer was no. And the most I can get for Iron Realms selling me something that I am not able to use with how they intended is even gold.

Facts are provided above, my opinion regarding this matter below: There are numerous people throughout the history of Aetolia who have received special things that others haven't. In all fairness I believe it's okay for everyone to receive special things - we are not all the same and the experience we all receive can be different. For instance Mazzion having a blue name on QW and becoming an Ankyrean before level 200 is something that he received and I believe the same type of "special" treatment that he's able to receive should be awarded to all Aetolians - not just a select few. There's other aetolians that fit into this category, but his are just obvious. Aetolia is already a small community and it costs Aetolia a lot more to lose consistent revenue on a 17 year customer than simply changing an environment token into a relic piece token. What I've suggested allows me not to be able to use an item that Iron Realms offered me and convert it into something that costs Aetolia nothing. Maybe 45 seconds typing on a keyboard. My actions in the past have been... deplorable. I formally apologize for those actions, for anything I have done that has impacted anyone else's gameplay experience in a negative manner. I was in a bad headspace for a long time, but that is no excuse for the things I have done. I do not expect a clean slate going forward, but I am sick and tired of feeling sick and tired about this, and am taking steps to curb the actions and behaviors that negatively affected so many. I hope this will be the first step on a better road going forward, and if there is anything further I can do to make amends, please do not hesitate to let me know. Personal Project. Aetolia but Minecraft

So I have a Minecraft server I host on my computer. Currently it's just me and the wife that plays on it. I was wondering how many people would be interested in see Aetolia in real-life?... Well Minecraft real-life. I want to recreate all of the Aetolia landscape within my Minecraft server. How cool would that be? Yeah I could just do this on my own time, not tell anyone, and just enjoy it myself! But if I like this idea, maybe others will too? If you do perhaps I'll let other Aetolia players join the server and check it out, or help build it. I just think this would be a really cool idea and a great way to delve even deeper into Aetolia.

Got a new job today, start next week. Between that, daughter in multiple dance classes. Son taking guitar lessons and everything else. It is time for me to go away for awhile.
