Stocking Promo Overhaul: A Preview
Hi folks,
At the upcoming Howling (about 9 hours from the time of this post) the month will officially roll over to December and the stockings promo will begin. The full details will go up as usual right after the Howling in another post, but as we are making some major changes to the stockings promo this year, I wanted to post in advance to give everyone the information early without making one giant, unwieldy news post.
If you don't want to read the full details, the basic TL;DR is stockings have been remade completely in how they handle prizes to give more consistent value.
After reviewing the logs for stockings from 2020, I was very unhappy about the average returns, so we've rebuilt them entirely from the ground up. Under the old system, higher tiers of stockings gave extra prize rolls, but these extra rolls still drew from the entire table of options. This meant that even at the highest price point, there was still a very high likelihood of rolling far below the equivalent value in credits and receiving lower returns than you would get from simply buying credits outright. Needless to say, this is not an acceptable standard.
We've done away with that system and now, each tier of stocking is assigned a minimum credit value that will always be met and will often be exceeded, made up of one or more prizes from that tier's list of options. At minimum, these returns will always be at least as good as a 30% credit sale (almost always better), scaling up towards a 45% or 50% bonus for the higher tiers - as a baseline.
THIS EFFECTIVELY MEANS THAT STOCKINGS ARE NOW MUCH MORE CONSISTENT IN VALUE.
I'll have more details on the specific values and the stocking contents when the time comes, but here is a breakdown of some other changes to stockings aimed at making them far more worthwhile:
- Gold and Platinum stockings now act as if you opened two stockings from their equivalent tier, giving double the prizes.
* e.g If you open a golden grand stocking, you would get two grand stockings worth of prizes totalling (at least) double the credit worth of one stocking of that tier.
- Stockings now reward organisation credits when purchased. These scale with the tier of stocking.
- Every 150 stockings opened will trigger a global prize where one of the next 50 stockings to be opened will contain a bonus of 500 credits on top of its other prizes.
- Filler prizes such as obsidian ink, grimstim pills, Underhalls torches and such no longer count towards a stocking's value and will only ever be included as extras.
- I have instated some bad luck protection that will ensure you can only roll prizes like styles, minipets, and such once per stocking.
* This eliminates the possibility of filling an entire stocking with the same low level item.
In addition to these changes, we have also completely reworked how the stocking raffle works. Instead of being tied wholly to gold and platinum stockings, there will now be one global raffle with 8 prizes drawn on January 1st.
Stocking purchases automatically enter you into the raffle on a scaling basis (Festive = 1 "ticket", Fancy = 2 "tickets", Grand = 6 "tickets", Extravagant = 20 "tickets"), and all stocking purchases award one "decorative gift voucher" per stocking bought. These can only be redeemed by someone other than the owner, and provide one raffle entry to whoever you gift them to.
This allows you to gift stockings freely without feeling as though you are missing out on raffle entries in the process, and also allows everyone to gift away raffle entries without giving up their own!
My next post at the Howling will have a full breakdown of the stocking values and their contents for this year. I apologise for the long post(s), but with how poor this promo was in the past, it needed a lot of love to bring it up to par. I think we have hit that mark!
HELP STOCKINGS will be updated after the Howling arrives with all of the new information!

Fragments of Time, Part IV: Of Fire and Fury, Copper and Brine
With the docks of Enorian in ruins and Sapience on high alert following the Haekathi incursion, tension gripped the continent as the world itself seemed to hold its breath, waiting in anticipation for the next inevitable calamity to strike.
The wait would be a short one. Following a particualrly intense focus battle deep in the Hlugnic Labyrinth that left scores dead, the scorching presence of Yvalamon the Fury was felt once more. Sweltering heat washed over the entirety of Sapience as the Albedi Tumult attempted to sustain Itself from the conflict and violence permeating the air, growing visibly stronger as yet more hordes of enraged fire daemons poured into the tunnels.
As time wound on, Yvalamon began to manifest regularly at the site of pitched battles, Xaanhal and Arbothia in particular transformed to theatres of conflagrant war. Daemons by the hundreds assaulted Sapience alongside the Ancient God's appearances, Its calcine form infused with greater strength as it fed on the thrill of bloodshed.

Many speculated over the fate of Copperhead following its disappearance during the anomalous focus. Unseen since the battle of the Gods, the Cogger's plans remained a mystery until mid Haernos, when its now-familiar clanking tones issued a warning at level five: critical. Moments later, a full veiling of Haekathi operatives converged upon Masilia seeking the aeonic confluence device, but they had severely underestimated their resistance. The Cogger effortlessly dispatched the invaders, executing its combat protocols with deadly efficiency and disposing of the corpses with ease.
As adventurers flocked to its side, the emissary of Kalchos relayed the intelligence it had gathered: the Haekathi had moored off the coast of Scidve where its ship - known as the Midnight Serpent - lay in wait for the operatives' return. Seeing this as a challenge and ever-content for a chance at violence, the people of Sapience took up arms and raided the vessel in small groups, facing copious Haekathi reavers and sailors who stood in defence of the ship's captain: Xaseira.
Armed with restricted technology including an array of shockwave bombs, a gauntlet of peculiar provenance, and a weapon capable of launching projectiles at deadly force, the commander fought a hard campaign and proved a formidable foe, felling countless opponents that attacked her unprepared.
Yet the strength of Sapience prevailed time and again: forcing Xaseira to retreat and regroup before she re-moored elsewhere along the coast. Of the dozens that faced her on her own vessel, it was Tanthilos, Lim, Nipsy, and Whirran who most relentlessly harried the Haekathi commander, setting aside their everyday grudges in order to repel the most pressing threat.
Penned missives and field orders were discovered aboard the Serpent, revealing the Haekathi's twin objectives: to secure the aeonic confluence for the Autarch, and to cripple the naval resistance of Sapience in the process.

While Enorian worked in tandem with the Argent Legion to repair their docks, Rhulin Glintspear - still wearied by his interrupted retirement - proposed action: the building of a mighty warship to replace those sunk in the Haekathi's first assault. The plan soon took hold and the city, galvanised by the brazen attack on their soil, was roused to immediate preparations.
As construction began in earnest and donations of commodities and gold poured in - in particular from Xavin, Tinazin, Merek, Isia, and Jezreth - an excited din gripped Enorian. In the days that followed, the Vanguard and her subordinates found themselves sent on many a wild chase in search of aid: procuring a sailmaker after an inordinately difficult series of negotiations, and unearthing a barrel of pitch buried on Eftehl by one of Rhulin's more dubious associates.
As the grace of the Rekindled blessed the Beacon with a gift of a fresh-fashioned ship's wheel, only the matter of naming their burgeoning craft remained.
Dawnbreaker, it would be called. And it would be a mighty vessel indeed.

Limb damage
Hey folks,
Just a quick heads up about how we're going to refer to limb damage terminology going forward in AB files.
Bruising: Associated with bruising and its mechanics.
Trauma: Damage to the limb that can cause it to enter a symptomatic state.
Crippled/Broken: Refers to the broken set of afflictions, e.g. left leg broken.
Damaged: Refers the damaged set of afflictions, e.g. left leg damaged.
Mangled/Mutilated: Refers to the mangled set of afflictions, e.g. left leg mangled.
Amputated: Refers to the amputated set of afflictions, e.g. left leg amputated.
Concussion: Refers specifically to the head mangled affliction.
You can find this information at a glance in HELP BODY PART DAMAGE along with the mechanics behind limb damage.
I will try and update AB files in time as I run into them, but feel free to submit typos if you see them too.
Lastly, for Ferality, I've swapped around the Destroy and Mangle skills, so that Mangle is now the skill that causes a mangle. This was a common source of confusion, even for myself. Make sure to update accordingly!
