This might come across as a bit of a jab at some folks and I assure you that it's not, but having been playing on Shadow again with a more dedicated character, I think many of you don't realize how similar both sides really are. Sure, Spirit has a bit more of an RP focus while Shadow tends to be a bit more centered around PK, but I've seriously noticed something that I'm calling GIGS (Grass Is Greener Syndrome). This might be rich coming from me given my history once upon a time, but not everything the other side has is OP, Keroc is not a biased admin (seriously, that statement has become a meme in itself), and Spirit and Shadow are probably the closest to each other that I've ever seen. Older players should remember the experience the days of old Lure, old Grove Annihilation, Quickfoot Sentinel, the lack of ranged options that Spirit had once upon a time, etc. and how far Aetolia has come since then. The game is far better off now than it has been in terms of balance. For all of our sakes, let's try not to take PvP so seriously where we're allowing it to cloud our perceptions of players. When I die, I have triggers that literally tell me to relax, take a breather, review the logs, and see where I went wrong. I encourage people to do the same before they jump to conclusions and get heated.
Edit: This post was largely generated from conversations I've had with players on both sides of the fence that make erroneous assumptions about the opposing tether, like claiming that one side is more hostile than the other or more "cheap" than the other. Both sides can, and have, been dickish. Both sides fluctuate in terms of who is strongest.

I just looked back at this and realized that I've SOMEHOW NEVER COMMENTED, WHAT?!
To build on Tetchta's above comment: Haven is one of my favourite people OOCly, because he's a chill, reasonable player who never gets peeved about IC situations OOCly.
Which naturally means that he is an absolute delight to be in an IC conflict with. Because I know he is neither getting OOCly upset about it, will act determinedly ICly about a situation, even if it the outcome will be ultimately detrimental to his character, and he is willing to lose without being OOCly upset about it (but also willing to win!).
Now on to the character! I've always enjoyed interacting with Haven on my various characters because:
- His emotes are packed with character. Rarely is there a snippet of a Haven scene that I see in which Haven's mood and headspace and demeanor aren't clearly displayed
- He has good scene pacing (by my metrics). While his tendency is to savor subtleties (something I enjoy in RP), his emotes never strike me as droning detail for detail's sake, but bringing life to the little things. But he also plays against the others in the scene well, briefer and shorter if appropriate.
- Haven has always struck me as flexible to the influences of RP. The character has never seemed inconsistently played, but he has always struck me as a character who is genuinely impacted by his experiences: be it for better or worse. And that makes participating in those experiences tremendously enjoyable and rewarding as another player.
- He'll play a villain who is willing to play hardball and is also willing to let his character lose. And that is Just. So. Fun.
That's the short list of what makes Haven awesome. If you like contentious RP in which you know no feelings are getting wounded OOCly - go roll up to Haven and sucker-punch him to get things started. You won't be disappointed!*
*unless he's afk. Probably send him a tell first.

With my many years of Vamp-related-mudboning experience, I can definitely say that (whether or not it is actually lore-consistent) players universally RP that Vamps can/do produce non-blood bodily fluids on a regular basis.

Only just came back for under a month so far, and I'm getting back into the groove of things and having all the fun that I've always considered as part of Aetolia's charm.
