@Diogen - Yeah the CMOS battery. Replaced that with a brand new one. What can I do about that malware issue? I basically don't download anything, and I don't look at kiddie porn or download a lot of unicorns over torrents, so...I think I'd be ok there. Would upgrading to 10 eliminate that malware/render it obsolete?

@Ishin: it depends on what is wrong with your clock. It's probably impossible, but it could be that you got another faulty CMOS, especially if your problems got worse after you switched.

Aside from running a scan from something like Malwarebytes, you could take drastic measures like reinstalling your OS, or if you don't have your disk/key anymore, you could just try a Linux install. If the problems persist there, it's definitively a hardware problem.

But, it's pretty unlikely that you got a freshly faulty CMOS battery; it could be something with the motherboard itself?

I've been working on computers for awhile now, and I only once encountered a malware specific issue wherein the system clock would adjust timezones. So, even the software possibility seems a little farfetched to me. If the speed of the clock itself is being wonky, I'd say there's like an 80% probability that it's hardware related.

@Diogen - Okay thanks. So what should I do? Get another motherboard or something? Take it apart and try to clean it out some? It's been through a lot of unicorns, but like I said it's old af too. So old, in fact, that I wanted to get the keyboard replaced and apparently the guy couldn't find the same model or something? They seem to not even make it anymore, lol.

Unfortunately, @Ishin, as it is an older laptop, you may be zoinked. Here's what I would try to do, each step increasing in severity.

    1) Run a scan with something like Malwarebytes
    2) Try to system restore back to a time where you remember the problems not happening
    3) Reformat and install a fresh OS
    4) Try another CMOS battery. I might skip this step out of the sheer unlikelihood of getting a new CMOS which behaves exactly like the old one.
    5) Look around for a replacement motherboard on Newegg. Because of how ancient it is, the cost of the model's motherboard may exceed the current worth of the laptop, if you can even find it.

If the problems still persist, your system may be possessed by demonic forces. It's a matter of how far you're willing to go versus accepting your fate and just getting a new unit. Depending on the quality of the laptop, if it's from 2007 you could probably find a newer, equivalent replacement for <$200.

TL;DR no windows 10 won't magic your problems away until you know for sure that it is a software problem, which steps 1-3 will confirm.

Yeah it is lame on a whole new level. I am disappointed that members of our community act in this manner as we tend to look after each other when it has such an impact. I am also taken back at the use of the charm by said "person(s)" who I will not name at this point.

Just weak in general and shameful.

In this same vein, is there some sort of RP rationale for supporting theft? We don't have a thief class, unless the Syssin interpret their class as such.

There's no rationale to it, it's only something that's possible given a skillset.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Riluo. While this was all fairly possible beforehand, the new charm change is absolutely asinine in the pure potential it opens up for people to troll with.

Wht hasn't Aetolia incorporated measures to prevent shop theft? several people have had their shops robbed due to Syssin charm change, and have lost a significant investment of credit bought items. It's trolly, griefy, and just on my scale of being a real scummy thing to do to someone else.

Admin, Should take the "action" of the CHARM if you are in phase. Meaning You can not suggest action while you are in phase. This will solve the issue 110%. The fact your able to FORCE an action upon someone without being in the same phase (unless you touch bell 100 times) its rather... well I won't comment on that.

No other class can force you from afar, Even Monk you get a line saying someone commanded you to do something so you can technically combat it.

The new charm kinda sucks all around. It's only real use is for trolling people, super awkward action tactics. Without action being useable it's 100% useless, as causing afflictions to hit on someone who's not in phase, while you are in phase doesn't gain you anything in the slightest. This is why once it was announced Trikal immediately had his refunded, well that and at that point it was 800 credit value, the price now is better for what it is, but what it is isn't something I personally really care to have. Doesn't help me fight people, just helps me troll 'em.

I was just robbed by a Syssin, so I'm starting to Think this is the case! The loss of gold doesn't bother me as much as it actually happening and then having it denied.

It's sort of sad when it happens without any form of interaction around it. Like, for example, Ensoi and Moirean playing Highway-men back in the day. It was frustrating at times, but they at least interacted about it. (They actually gave most things back, iirc)

Why not leave a small, but rather obscure clue and let it lead to some investigating instead of just trolling people? Give them a chance to RP finding the culprit and apply suitable punishment? But yeah, I guess the people stealing things from other's stockrooms are just being selfish unicorns, not wanting to add things to the game.

Well, the best thing you can do about the stealing and the theft of RL purchased unicorns and whatnot is just let public opinion take over. Look what happened to Calipso or Callisto or whatever her name was. People know a scumbag for when they see one. Make 'em famous. Usually changes their tune real quick.

I don't Think there's a forum thread where I can do that without straying off topic. However, I am not afraid to call them out privately to those who are curious.

It is a reoccurring theme recently and one that will result in what Trager stated. I am still annoyed as it is now happening to others who can ill afford to be treated in this manner.

If the rationale for allowing huge thefts is for the realism/roleplay, then it logically follows that realism/roleplay also dictates an appropriate retribution too. (Newton's Third Law, hyuk hyuk)

In my case, the problem with that is lack of interest in the city and lack of system for my pk. But I completely agree with what has been said.

@Asaraii - I wouldn't have a problem with open bounties for something like that. From what I've heard it was a LOT of stuff that was taken, so it only stands to reason that he'll either return the stuff, or you guys will take it back out of his unicorns. Just make sure your people are straight on the bounty collection and stuff.

I wouldn't even go as far as posting bounties in a situation like this, I think. You basically become a permanent whipping child until either the items are returned, or their monetary worth in gold paid off. Trying to translate something like a single death to a fixed worth seems silly. I mean, yeah, it's probably going to make your play time highly uncomfortable if anyone worth their salt decides to make your life miserable, but that's all part of making sure the juice is worth the squeeze. I'll say bravo to the thieves anyway. Either you rushed into something out of the pure excitement without really looking into the consequences, or you're ready for some fun times!

I get people telling me 'you've already killed me once. What reason do you have to come after me now?'. This is a common misconception of how the one-kill rule works.
    No/single death issues
    ----------------------
Any issue filed purely over an attack where NO DEATH or a SINGLE DEATH occurred will generally BE DISMISSED outright.
Death is a part of Aetolia, and there are numerous avenues to deal with the repercussions of player killing without the
Administration stepping in. These avenues should always be taken, and issues that concern player killing of any sort
should only be filed where they constitute serious breaches of conduct and may constitute harassment. This does not mean
that Admin will never act if it is a single or no death involved. However, it is more likely to be dismissed.
The 'one-kill' rule isn't 'You can only kill once for anything done against you'. It's 'You can kill once without getting an issue judgement against you.'

This means that you should feel free to kill as many times as you want. Just that once you cross the one kill mark, you need to have good enough reason to stand up against any issue, and show that you have behaved reasonably. This can be justified by roleplay. If you have always behaved yourself and not acted like an OOC pk jerkwad, that should help too.

In this case, I think it's entirely reasonable to kill a person over and over until they have returned what they took from you.

Well even "One kill" is more "One kill on one person out of the blue" A pattern of running around singly killing people without cause all the time is also issuable.

If someone does steal what can you do really?

In general the way it is right now the only real avenue for this is to let each group it effects take a shoot I suppose.

IE you rob a shop in a city, then the city has a right to chase you down, as does the owner of said shop and the people who invested in the shop, right down to their family/house/org as it is assault on many levels from a rp perspective. It is a odd area right now for sure.

Sidenote: I was not in my shop/stockroom when mine was robbed. I was moved to it.

Gotta chime my two cents in. I don't see the point in allowing this mechanic to charm, and enabling someone to steal from shops in this way as there really are no viable ways of full retribution. Yes, you can kill the pereson over and over, demand your stuff back, but let's be honest, deaths really aren't a big deal. Not to mention people can hang out in a protected island of their city or haven. However, there's no way to strip people in Aetolia, not really. My understanding of this being to avoid situations of sadist attacks. The way I see it, if you get robbed from either afking or being entirely inept at preventing it from happening, your better hope this assailant at least has a shop so you can try to retaliate in a similar manner (assuming this is your go-to) AND you have access to someone, if not the ability, to utilize this use for theft.

My question is if charms are going to allow for people to get people to unlock doors, does this mean other avenues will be opened for stripping people?

I for one sure hope so. Otherwise I'd see it as an unbalanced mechanic.

Are torches of the underhalls supposed to decay? Assumed for some reason that they were artifact tier in that regard, since you can trade them in for credits?
