Holy War Update!

Hello folks,

Bit of an update to the Holy War system! Where once there was simply a single method to achieve victory, there is now three! You can complete any victory type in a Holy War in order to win - they all run concurrently.

Shrine victory
-----------------------
- No different from before.

Offering victory
-----------------------
- Raise a minimum of 5,000,000 shrine energy from the start of the Holy War.
- Only denizens slain by your hand will count towards this total.
- Once achieved, you must be 30% ahead of the opposing Orders offering total.
- If all above objectives achieved, then the Holy War will be won.

Slayer victory**
-----------------------
- Kill the opposing Order members 25 times in total.
- Each Order member you kill only counts once to the score per Howling.
- If achieved, the Holy War is won.

**NOTE: While this one is a bit harder to achieve with the cooldown, keep in mind it is intentionally skewed towards a smaller Order that is up against a bigger Order with more members. That is when it should become much more achievable.

The idea here being is that it should help all Order members have something they can likely work towards to help the Order, and likewise make it a little more fun to participate in. Do note at its heart, it is still somewhat reliant on PK.

Miscellaneous changes
-----------------------
- The Piety research bonus has been lowered to 50%, down from 100%.
- Having three monuments (the max) now notifies the Order when someone defiles a shrine regardless of where the shrine is.
- The grace period is now a bit more random to make it harder to control when a Holy War begins.
- Shrine energy gained from Holy War victory can exceed the 5,000,000 SE maximum.

The file HELP HOLYWAR has been updated with all the new information so you can refer to it on a glance.

That's all!

  • Questions in regards to - Raise a minimum of 5,000,000 shrine energy from the start of the Holy War.

    Is this Order members only?
    Does Congregation count?
What about ampoule of anointing oils?

  • The congregation question is actually really important here for all of the victory conditions. Cong-hopping between wars is a thing (i'm neutral on it happening, just saying it happens).

Do congregation kills and deaths count for the 25 victory condition?
if they don't, thought should be given to an order with 1-3 members with a congregation of 5-10+the hoppers vs an order of 5-10 with a congregation of 1-3+hoppers. The smaller order's members in this instance can bash or defile freely if they're not being harried while the congregation roams and harries the bigger order without consequence. And the smaller order is favored if the two orgs decide to go blow for blow, they effectively get more points for winning fights per howling.
Meanwhile the larger order has more people that can offer for the essence victory condition, and more people to defile more shrines at once.

Given even overall numbers, larger orders with smaller congregations still come out ahead (which means nothing changed).

Numbers disparity still favors the larger organization (which probably can't be fairly addressed, and likely shouldn't be).

Something that might help is to lock the congregations on declaration, so no last minute cong-hoppers can join in (I don't know if this is something people are interested in, or even seen as a problem by anyone not frustrated by getting molly whopped in the moment by someone they didn't know was in the congregation, whether they're a cong-hopper or not).

  • I'll add that, at this point, congregation seem like an unnecessary step and mechanic to the entire order/god process, which results in special rules during times of holy war and issues such as those outlined above. I've mentioned this privately to another player before, but I think the entire system would be better served by deleting congregation and simply opening orders up to be joined by anyone interested, similar to guilds. If you join and then leave, you'll need to seek out a player to rejoin. Start people at OR1, obviously, and then allow order members with the appropriate rank/power and the respective god to promote/demote people. As is, orders remain small, exclusive clubs that wither and often die as soon as a god goes inactive, especially if the order wasn't properly setup for the eventuality of the god role being vacant. Rather than putting the onus on proving yourself to even be included in order RP, the onus should be shifted to proving yourself for promotions, responsibility, etc.

Victory conditions only count when they come from Order members. Congregation members can't gain any slayer points, raise shrine energy, or defile shrines.

HELP HOLYWAR covers a lot of the smaller details, if it helps.
